Today’s the big day!
It’s not just any Friday the 13th, but the legendary Friday the 13th…on Friday, June 13th, 1946, Jason Voorhees graced the world of horror with his birth. (Within the universe of the film, of course - there was no Friday, June 13th, 1946 in real life - it was actually in 1947 according to Binfy.com - https://binfy.com/friday_13th_year_calendar.php).
Happy Birthday, Big Guy! You’re looking fantastic for 79!
Jason has always been my favorite horror movie icon, as you can see from other parts of my site (check out those links at the top of the page! 😉).
So, this Friday the 13th is a special occasion. The last time Friday the 13th fell in June was back in 2014!
Friday the 13th is also significant for me in another way.
Friday, March 13th, 2020 was the last day I worked in office prior to COVID-19 lockdowns. Two weeks to slow the spread turned into 5 years here in Virginia Beach.
Flash forward to Friday, June 13th, 2025 and thats all over. The last five years of my life started and ended on a Friday the 13th.
Ironic that just like the characters in the films, Friday the 13th is now such a negative association, a terrible omen, a curse.
Way she goes, I guess. At least it doesn’t sour the film franchise for me.
All that aside, I urge everyone today to pop on your favorite movie from the series, and let’s celebrate the gory glory of Jason Voorhees!
Happy Friday the 13th!
